Up to four hours with a gorilla family still becoming accustomed to human presence — a rarer, less scripted encounter than standard trekking.
The Gorilla Habituation Experience is a genuinely different encounter from standard gorilla trekking: rather than the customary one golden hour, you accompany Uganda Wildlife Authority researchers for up to four hours with a family that is still being habituated to human presence, seeing more natural, less-accustomed behavior in the process. This short itinerary is built around a single habituation permit in the Rushaga sector of Bwindi, arriving and departing via Kigali.
Met on arrival at Kigali International Airport for the scenic three-hour drive to Bwindi’s Rushaga sector via the Cyanika border post, with the rest of the day free to rest.
A briefing on trekking etiquette at the park headquarters, followed by up to four hours accompanying researchers and rangers as they work with a gorilla family still becoming accustomed to human presence — a rarer, more natural look at gorilla behavior than standard trekking allows.
A drive back to Kisoro and on to Kigali, with a half-day city tour including the Kigali Genocide Memorial, before departure.
